The results in Table 2 are very similar to those of the earlier literature on age distribution of patients in urology outpatient clinics. While the percentages in Table 3 are highly consistent with those from the earlier studies, we suspect that the most recent work might not be completely accurate.
We also studied how many women with ovarian cancer are seeking fertility treatment, and how many men are seeking fertility treatment. The percentages for each are shown in Table 4. The percentages for 2 groups are also highly consistent with those from the earlier studies.

If we compare the percentages to those from earlier studies, women seeking fertility treatment are significantly more likely to visit a urologist than men. This is not surprising given the large number of women receiving fertility treatment for ovarian cancer, but it is possible that the earlier studies may have been underpowered to detect such a difference. We hypothesize that this difference is related to the fact that women with ovarian cancer often have hormone receptor status in place, which makes it more difficult for ovarian cancer therapies to reach their intended targets. Although we find that women with ovarian cancer are much more likely to seek fertility treatments than men, we feel that the differences between men and women are too small to be a major factor in the disparity.
The percentage rates for both diagnostic and treatment purposes are shown in Table 4. We find the percentages of women receiving fertility treatment to be similar those from the earlier studies, with notable exception of men who seek fertility treatment. In the U.S. [12], number one reason given for seeking fertility treatments is being unable to conceive a child. The percentage of men seeking fertility treatment is much higher (almost twice as that of women, shown in Table 4).
